The Connecticut DEEP began its 2013 pre-season stocking of local rivers in the Trout Management Areas.
On Tuesday, the state released 1,150 trout into the Mianus River trout management area in Stamford, and 650 trout into the Mill River trout management area in Fairfield.
DEEP expects to stock the Saugatuck River trout management area with 850 fish in the coming days.
It’s perfect timing, too, according to the Mianus Chapter of Trout Unlimited, as the early black and brown stoneflies are hatching.
Trout Unlimited reminds anglers that all rivers in Connecticut are closed to fishing from March 1 through April 20, but catch and release fishing is allowed in special Trout Management Areas.
