When targeting early-season stripers in Narragansett Bay, Capt. Dave Monti reaches for the Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow. This time-tested lure features prominent prismatic eyes, as well as a tight swimming action and highly reflective sides. It also comes equipped with strong, sharp saltwater hooks.
“My favorite lure for spring bass is the Crystal Minnow in the 5 ¼”, 5-ounce size,” says Monti. “The lure flashes real well, mimicking a silverside and other early-season baitfish.” The floating model will dart and dive to 3’ or so then float to the surface, allowing it to be fished in shallow areas where the bass are likely to hold after they first arrive in the bay.
When it comes to colors, Monti prefers the silver/grey scheme.
