While the Monster Shark Tournament that drew national attention and thousands of spectators to Oak Bluffs each summer has found a new home in Newport for 2014, there may be another offshore event to fill the void.

If granted approval by the Oak Bluffs Harbor Advisory Committee, the Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic (OBBC), a canyon-fishing event, would be held July 25 to July 28 out of the Martha’s Vineyard harbor. According to event organizer Damon Sacco, the town selectmen have already granted approval for the tourney, which would be an IGFA Bluewater Tournament awarding weigh-in points (tunas, wahoo, mahi and sword) and release points (marlin).

The Harbor Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet on March 13 to discuss the tournament. If approved, Oak Bluffs Harbor would begin taking slip reservations for slips upon verification of tournament registration.
