An economic report on commercial and recreational saltwater fishing by NOAA’s Fisheries Service highlights the importance of fishing to the New England economy.

According to the report, which examined fishing’s economic impact in the country in 2011, Massachusetts was among the states that generated the most jobs from fishing. Also, while the Alaskan commercial fishing industry generated the most landings revenue ($1.9 billion), it was followed next by Massachusetts ($433 million) and Maine ($381 million).
