Rhode Island DEM has raised the bag limit for black sea bass during the September-through-December season to 7 fish/day.

According to Jason McNamee, principal marine biologist at the DEM Division of Marine Fisheries: “There was an adjustment to the mean weight used in the reduction calculations for black sea bass, so we ended up with a lower needed reduction, and that allowed us to increase the fall limit to 7.”

The current regulations for black sea bass are as follows:

  • 13 inch minimum
  • June 15 to Aug 31 – 3 fish/day
  • Sept 1 to Dec 31   – 7 fish/day
