Rivers End Tackle in Old Saybrook reports that the spring run of stripers is underway in Connecticut.

Reports from the lower Connecticut River have been consistent this week with catches from the mouth of the Salmon River in East Haddam to Great Island. Most catches are on sandworms or lead headed soft plastics. Better fishing this week is in the estuaries with the Connecticut and Housatonic Rivers.

Blackfish: As usual the opening of the blackfish season doesn’t mean the fish have read the notice. Catches are just starting to be reported from the New Haven – Branford area. For some reason, the New Haven Breakwater hosts the season opener with the Millstone area second choice.
