Future of Iconic Lifeboat Considered

The future of Coast Guard lifeboat 36500, the 36-foot, wooden vessel used to save 32 people from the stricken tanker Pendleton off Chatham in 1952, was recently discussed.

The Cape Cod Times reports that the Orleans Historical Society, which currently owns and maintains the historic boat, has floated the idea of gifting 36500 back to the Coast Guard, which might mean moving the boat to Washington D.C. That said, the Times adds that the Orleans Historical Society has no immediate plans to move the boat from its berth in Rock Harbor, on Cape Cod.
