Grant Awarded for New Lobster Boat Hull Design

Ellsworth American: A $75,312 grant was recently issued to help researchers at the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) design a more efficient hull for lobster-fishing boats. Currently, that design is slated to consist of 3 pontoons and require less fuel to get through the seas, yet still support a deck large enough for commercial lobster fishing.

The grant was issued by the Maine Economic Improvement Fund Small Campus Initiative, which connects various funding sources with university researchers whose projects could lead to economic development, according to an MMA press release.
