Greenport, NY, to Hold Bounty Tall Ship Memorial
November 29, 2012
Suffolk Times: Hurricane Sandy may have claimed the HMS Bounty, but the Tall Ship will not soon be forgotten. The Greenport [New York] Village Board is making sure of it.
Among the agenda items for Monday night’s village board meeting is a discussion about a planned memorial for the Bounty, the replica tall ship, which sunk in rough seas brewed by Sandy off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The tragedy resulted in the loss of 2 lives, including that of the ship’s captain, Robin Walbridge, whom the U.S. Coast Guard said went down with the ship during the incident. The other, Claudene Christian, was a crewmember who claimed ancestry to mutineer Fletcher Christian of the original Bounty.
