Greenwich, CT, Man Helps Eels on Spring Migration
April 18, 2014
WNPR.com reports on the efforts of Connecticut’s Joe Cassone of the Greenwich Conservation Commission, who assists juvenile eels (elvers) in their upstream migration each spring.
The eels in Greenwich are thwarted by dams on the Mianus and Byram Rivers, so Cassone and his volunteers trap the eels at the base of the Byram Dam and transport them to upstream areas. He has even invented a clever device that attracts and then traps the tiny eels in a giant collection tank.
