Mattapoisett, Massachusetts harbormaster Jill Simmons is not happy with the current mooring system in town, according to an article on SouthCoastToday.com.

She made that clear at a recent selectmen’s meeting, when the Marine Advisory Board discussed possible changes to the town’s Waterway Rules and Regulations.

Grandfathered moorings — those in the possession of the same person or family since before 1989 — are the primary problem, she said. Owners of such moorings don’t have to comply with the 1989 regulations, allowing them to leave moorings empty or allow a third party to use them, although no money is supposed to change hands.
