Herring Counters Needed on Jones River, MA
March 27, 2015
The Jones River Watershed Association is rallying volunteers for its 11th annual herring count on the Jones River in Kingston, MA. Fisheries biologists rely on the data gathered to assess river herring status in runs throughout New England. The Jones River fish count is conducted at the Elm Street Dam fish ladder.
Each count takes 10 minutes. Volunteers are needed for 3 of those 10-minute counts in each of 3 time blocks (7-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-3 p.m., and 3-7 p.m.) 7 days per week from April 1 until June 1.
JRWA will train all volunteers, scheduled at their convenience.
