Historic Surf-Rescue Boat Donated to Kittery Museum

A rare wooden surf-rescue boat once used by a nascent Coast Guard station in the 1930’s and ‘40’s is being donated to the restored Wood Island Lifesaving Station & Museum in Kittery, Maine.

The 25-foot boat, named the Mervin F. Roberts, is one of the last remaining wooden “SR” pulling surfboats in existence, although it now sports a small inboard engine. It is currently located in Old Lyme, CT, which is trying to raise funds to transport the boat to Kittery.
