Huge Lake Trout is Lake Champlain Record

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department recently certified a 19.36-pound lake trout caught in Lake Champlain this past August as a new Champlain record.

The fish is the largest lake trout taken from Champlain since the state began recording fish records in 1969. (The largest lake trout caught in Vermont on record weighed 35 pounds, 3.2 ounces.)

The Champlain lunker laker was taken by Jeffery Sanford of South Burlington. Sanford caught the 36.5-inch fish on a jig fished in over 100 feet of water.
