Hy-Line Ferry Captain Retires

CapeCodOnline: John Lynch looked like a man relaxed. With his arm resting against the outside of the Hy-Line Cruises ticket office [in Hyannis, Massachusetts], he talked casually with another man while the company’s high-speed ferry headed into the Ocean Street dock.

Since Hy-Line started running a high-speed ferry in 1995, Lynch has been at the helm, captaining the ship.

The Sagamore Beach man calculated he’s navigated 17,640 one-way trips, either to or from Nantucket. This past Wednesday, he relaxed on his second-to-last day as a full-time captain for Hy-Line on the hour-plus ride. He started as a captain with the company in 1971 and retired last week.
