Invasive Species Threaten LI Sound

New Haven Register: They looked small and harmless in the hands of University of New Haven students Wednesday afternoon. But sea squirts and Asian shrimp, 2 invasive marine species, could cause a great deal of damage to the shoreline’s native species and the state’s $30 million shellfish industry now that they’re being seen more often and in greater numbers in Connecticut.

That’s why the university is conducting research on the creatures, the students told the news media Wednesday on the Amistad dock at Long Wharf.
