Kayakers Rescued off Westport, CT

Two kayakers were rescued off Compo Beach in Westport, CT, on Monday, Feb 1. Police responded to the scene after receiving a report of an unoccupied kayak floating approximately 1/3-mile offshore. When police arrived, they discovered one person stranded on a rock island and a second kayaker who was attempting to reach the stranded individual, but was struggling in the high winds and seas.
Police eventually launched a rescue boat to assist the kayaker who was attempting to paddle back to shore and removed the other person from the rocks. Both were brought safely to Compo Beach. Neither kayaker was wearing a PFD.
