Kayakers and canoeists, young and old, expert and beginner, are invited to paddle in the inaugural Lamprey River Splash & Dash and Paddle Palooza Parade on Saturday, Aug. 20 at downtown Schanda Park on the Lamprey River in Newmarket, NH.

The Newmarket Recreation Department hopes to make this an annual tradition, as well as draw spectators to the downtown area to watch competitors participate in a “costume themed” Paddle Palooza Parade and the 3 K and ½ K kayak/canoe races down the Lamprey River.

The Rockin’ River Paddle Palooza Parade will take place at noon and is open to all ages and consists of a short paddle around the cove in a parade formation dressed and decorated in your best Rock & Roll paraphernalia for the Rockin’ River theme. The 3K race will begin immediately following parade and the course will go to the mouth of Great Bay and back. For the younger or less experienced paddler there will be a junior ½ K Race as well. The finish line for all races will be marked in the Lamprey River cove in front of the mills. Cash Prizes and Medals will be awarded to winners in all categories.

Both the parade and race will commence at Schanda Park, at the end of Water Street. There will be no parking at Schanda Park. Vehicles can drop off paddle craft at the park and then park car at Newmarket Junior/Senior High School. A shuttle will be available from 10:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. to transport participants and spectators to and from the downtown area.

Advance registration can be done in person at the Recreation Department at 1 Terrace Drive or online. For more information, call 659-8581 or email
