Long Island Town Ups Oyster Harvest

Newsday.com: The [Long Island town] of Huntington has introduced a pilot program that will double the amount of oysters that can be harvested in the summer.

Commercial shellfish permit holders can take up to 1,000 oysters a day through August 31 [2014].

“The bayman have been telling us we’re plentiful with oysters,” Town Supervisor Frank Petrone said. “So we worked with them and came up with this pilot program.”
