The Patriot Ledger reports that the Massachusetts’ boating industry appears poised for a rebound after 2 years of poor sales.

The article says that Massachusetts boat dealers have reported encouraging sales activity in late winter, which has given them a confident outlook on this year’s prospects. Boat dealers quoted in the article include Ed Lofgren of 3A Marine in Hingham; Michael Myers, owner of Boston Yacht Sales, which is headquartered in Weymouth’s Tern Harbor; and Jack Kent III of Bayside Marine in Duxbury. All 3 have reported positive sales activity in 2011 so far.

Tom Smith, president of Sterling Associates, which specializes in boat loans, told the Ledger that the average boat loan this year is approximately $240,000, up from $165,000 in 2010.
