MA Boaters Urged to Comment on New Ocean Plan

The Massachusetts Marine Trades Association (MMTA) is reminding Massachusetts boaters that the Public Comment Period for the Ocean Management Plan (OMP) review by the MA Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) ends on August 10.

Of concern to recreational boating advocates is that CZM is considering adopting new data that would eliminate the protection of certain navigational routes and waters used by boaters. These areas could then be restricted to boaters and be used for non-recreational purposes. Even heavily navigated routes such as Boston to Provincetown may lose protection if certain proposed plans are adopted by CZM, according to the MMTA.

The MMTA has created a sample cover letter for concerned boaters to send to the CZM before next Friday.
