MA Officials Concerned About Spring Floods

Newburyport News: At Amesbury Industrial Supply this past weekend, the clerks feverishly stocked shelves at the front of the store with something that may be seeing a lot of use in the coming weeks—sump pumps.
Spring is coming, and there are fears that the sudden arrival of higher temperatures and seasonal rains could trigger a rapid snow melt that will cause flooding. But the more fearsome scenario is if the sudden warm-up and rains occur in central New Hampshire and the White Mountains, which could unleash a torrent of floodwater down the Merrimack River.
The deep snowpack and ice-filled rivers are 2 conditions now solidly in place that beckon destructive floods.
