New Haven Register: The state of Connecticut is expected to approve $850,000 for improvements at Hammonasset Beach State Park, including preliminary work on a new nature center and shoring up the eroding beach. State Senator Edward Meyer (D-Guilford) said this week that the state Bond Commission is expected to have approved the measure at its meeting on Friday, March 25.
Park Supervisor John Hine said $250,000 of the funds would go toward the design work for a new nature center. The remaining $600,000 would go toward building bathhouses closer to the West Beach parking lot, reconfiguring the boardwalk to meet the new building and placing a sand dune in the area to stem erosion.
