New Haven Register: A popular shellfishing spot will be closed for the summer season because of pollution concerns. West Wharf Beach is one of the town’s recreational shellfishing areas and is regularly seeded with oysters and clams by the town’s Shellfish Commission.
“The Bureau of Agriculture was concerned about the boats in the mooring field at the Beach Club,” commission Chairman Steve Nikituk said. “There are a lot of sailboats and power boats moored for the season, and some of those boats have toilet facilities, which may contaminate the water.”
