Maine Fisherman Donates Wreck Relic
January 14, 2011
SeacoastOnline: Local fisherman Kenny Young recently turned over a piece of history to the Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit—part of an old rudder that sat next to his garage for more than 40 years.
Young was dragging for groundfish near Bald Head Cliff around 1968, when he pulled the 100-pound piece of rudder aboard his boat, the Judy Marie. It had gotten caught on his net. He was about a mile south of Perkins Cove at the time, he said.
“It lay off the cliff in 90 feet of water,” Young, 68, said. “I suspected what it was. We got into a lot of wrecks.”
