Maine Fishermen Catch Unexploded Round

A fishing crew out of Harpswell, Maine, recently discovered a piece of unexploded military ordinance in its gear.

The device, labeled “live round,” measured 3 to 4 feet long and was some 6” in diameter, according to the Portland Press Herald. It was found some 12 miles off the coast and brought to shore on Bailey Island, where members of the Maine State Police bomb squad later disposed of it by blowing it up at a sand pit.
