Maine Island Trail Group Sues Former Employee

The Maine Island Trail Association is suing a former employee who they claim embezzled thousands of dollars from the organization.
According to a report in the Portland Press Herald, the association is suing its former business manager, Patricia Dano, of Naples, Maine, claiming Dano embezzled $117,000 during the more than 4 years she worked for the organization.
The Maine Island Trail Association is a nonprofit organization that works to protect Maine’s wild islands and a recreational water trail. With an annual operating budget of just $500,000, group officials describe the lost money as “devastating.”
