Maine Kayaker Took Precautions Before Accident

Officials say the kayaker who drowned this week (April 14) in an accident off Higgins Beach in Scarborough, Maine, took safety precautions in preparation for his trip, according to an article in the Portland Press Herald.
Steven Langlais, of New Gloucester, was wearing a wetsuit, which would give him some protection against the cold water, and a life vest. He also had a cellphone, stored in a container that should have been waterproof, although it evidently leaked.
