Maine Oyster Co. Looks to Expand on Bagaduce River

The Ellsworth American reports that the Taunton Bay Oyster Co. has filed an application with the Maine Department of Marine Resources for a 10-year aquaculture lease to grow up to 4 million oysters on 3 sites totaling 23.7 acres in Northern Bay on the Bagaduce River.

Landowners along the bay and river recently raised concerns that the operation would increase traffic at the Penobscot town landing and that efforts to control predation by starfish might decimate a food source enjoyed by some seabirds.
