Maine Rockweed Meeting on Nov. 17
November 12, 2014
The University of Maine Machias will host the 2nd meeting of the DMR Rockweed Conservation working group on November 17, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m.
The meeting will examine topics such as whether conservation areas along the coast be maintained as “no cut” areas, or only a small portion of them, and should Cobscook Bay retain its conservation, “no cut” areas. Come tell the working group what you think. Note: Rockweed working group rules prohibit any discussion of the legal status of rockweed as a private or public resource.
The working group will send recommendations early in 2015 to the DMR Commissioner on:
- areas in the state that should be closed to commercial rockweed harvest
- whether the current Cobscook Bay law restricting rockweed harvest from all conservation areas should be retained for Cobscook.
The meeting will be held at the university’s Science Room 102 (116 O’Brien Avenue).
