Maine Students to Sail Aboard Tall Ships This Summer


[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Portland Press Herald reports that 4 students at Casco Bay High School have been selected to join the crews of 2 Tall Ships—the 210’ Oliver Hazard Perry and the 179’ Picton Castle—in a flotilla that will be sailing up the East Coast this summer as part of a multi-city maritime festival culminating in Portland, Maine, in July.

Ayan Ahmed, Nathan Robinson, Julien Peck and Naomi Radtke Rowe were chosen to take part based on essays they wrote describing their desire to sail. Another 11 Maine high school students also will sail in the flotilla.

The students will be involved in sailing, navigation, cooking, cleaning, standing watch while onboard the ships.
