Man Dies in Whitewater Rafting Accident

A whitewater rafter died on Saturday, June 3, on the Dead River in West Forks Plantation, Maine.
According to the Portland Press Herald, Richard Sanders, 67, of York, Maine, was ejected from a raft carrying 7 people when it flipped on Mile Long Rapid. Sanders, who was wearing a lifejacket, was not breathing when life-saving measures were attempted.
According to the Maine Warden Service, there have been 6 boating fatalities in Maine this year as of early June. That equals the total number of boating deaths in all of 2016.
