Man Pleads Guilty to Making Hoax Call

The Portland Press Herald reports that 23-year-old Owen Adair, 23, of Vinalhaven, Maine, has pleaded guilty to making a hoax mayday call last fall in which he pretended to be an injured crewman aboard a fishing vessel. On September 30, 2014, Adair falsely told responders that he was aboard the Lila Rose off the coast of Rockland with a serious neck injury, and that he was bleeding badly. Adair faces up to 6 years in federal prison, along with a $250,000 fine and 3 years of supervised release.
