Massachusetts Announces New Fishing Licensing System
January 7, 2011
The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game has announced that the state’s 2011 hunting and fishing licenses are now available online via the department’s new system, intended to make new license purchasing and license renewal more convenient for residents and visitors in Massachusetts.
Licenses may now be purchased online and used the same day the order is placed, rather than wait to receive the license in the mail. Traditional paper licenses will still be available at retailers and state offices until the online system is fully established.
In a related item, anglers fishing in Massachusetts coastal waters are reminded that a state saltwater license is required as of January 1. Saltwater license is available to both residents and non-residents at a cost of $10. Anyone who is under 16, who is disabled, or who is fishing aboard a chartered vessel is not required to purchase a permit. The fee is waived for those over 60, but a permit is still required (registration can be done online). Anglers who hold a saltwater license from New Hampshire are exempt as well.
