ME Couple Builds Boat-Inspired Wooden Bathtubs

Working Waterfront reports on a new trend in home furnishings: luxury wooden bathtubs. Wooden-boat aficionados Steve and Miranda Batiste of Swan’s Island, Maine, are building tubs made from fine hardwoods, an idea they hatched in the 1970s while restoring a vintage sailing vessel. They like the material for its aesthetic qualities and its insulating properties (cast-iron bathtubs allow water heat to dissipate quickly). Prices range up to $8,000, with custom orders available.
