Mercury Unveils Verado 350 Outboard

Verado 350.phpMercury Marine introduced its new 6-cylinder Verado 350-hp outboard at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show, held in February, to great fanfare. The Verado 350 now represents the most powerful engine in the Verado family of 4- and 6-cylinder supercharged 4-strokes.

Built on Mercury’s proven supercharged inline 6-cylinder Verado block, the 350 delivers speed and performance without sacrificing durability and fuel economy.

Mercury test results show that the 350, which can operate on 89 octane gas (91 octane is recommended for peak performance), provides up to 10% greater fuel economy than competitive outboards. That translates into 100 miles or more in additional range per fill-up and hundreds of dollars saved at the pump each year.

The engine’s excellent performance and fuel economy is partly based on its lightweight, compact design. Weighing just 668 pounds, the Verado 350 is 95 pounds lighter than the nearest 4-stroke competitor, according to Mercury.

The engine also delivers outstanding torque across its operating range, creating rocket-like hole shots and faster top-end speed. It also features Mercury’s all-new intelligent design enhancements, leading to a best-in-class driving experience.

Other highlights of the Verado 350 include:

  •  New cold-air intake system collects cool, fresh air from outside the cowl and deliver it efficiently to the supercharger.
  •  Larger, straighter air intake reduces turbulent flow.
  •  Water-cooled supercharger delivers greater boost by utilizing water from the engine cooling system to provide a cooling jacket around the supercharger components, thereby reducing the work required to compress the air induction and increasing overall durability.
  •  Vented flywheel cover allows engine heat to dissipate more easily, improving the overall efficiency and durability of the engine and its components.
  •  Robust 5.44”-diameter gear case built to handle offshore seas and to provide extra lift for longer, heavier center console and walkaround boats.
  •  Precision-machined gears ensure quality and durability.
  • Specially formulated lower-gear lubrication reduces lube temperature and increases gearcase efficiency, which translates into more propshaft horsepower and better performance. It also means lower maintenance and longer engine life.
  • Idle Charge system adaptively increases engine rpm at low speeds when battery voltage is low. This provides additional current for increased house loads caused by today’s integrated navigation equipment, and ensures ample power for safe operation.
  • Compatibility with Mercury SmartCraft Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) system, which offers smooth, instantaneous, quiet shifting and ultra-responsive throttle control.
  • Class-leading corrosion protection utilizing low-copper-aluminum-silicon alloys. The high-tech paint system features irridite metal prep and sealing, electro-deposition paint (EDP) priming and powder-paint top coat. The engine also comes with a 3-year limited corrosion warranty.
