Mini Maine Sailboat Lands in England

A miniature sailboat sponsored by students in Scarborough, Maine, has twice traversed the Atlantic, most recently landing in Sussex, England, on Aug. 18 after 3 months at sea, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The 5-foot-long sailboat, called Red Storm, was deployed in May from the Maine Maritime Academy training ship on its voyage to Spain.

The boat is part of a program run by Educational Passages, a nonprofit organization based in Belfast and Kennebunk that was founded in 2008 to educate children about the environment and ocean literacy, while connecting students to cultural opportunities.

More than 150 “mini boats” have been launched, and are are now sailing in the Pacific and the Indian Ocean.
