Mini Solar-Powered Boat Sets Distance Record

EastBayRI.com: Scout, the little solar-powered boat designed and built in Tiverton [Rhode island] to cross the Atlantic to Spain, began a 3rd attempt just before midnight tonight, Friday, August 23, at Sakonnet Point.

ScoutTransatlantic_2The boat started well (see tracking website by CLICKING HERE), quickly passing distances reached on its first 2 tries and soon eclipsing the 60-plus-mile record for such attempts set by an Irish team.

By midday Tuesday [August 27], the boat had travelled about 157 miles (118 miles from Rhode Island) and was located about 50 miles southeast of Nantucket. Scout did seem to be meandering on a heading east and north of its rendezvous with the next satellite waypoint.
