Multiple Water Rescues on Cape Cod

Rescue personnel on Cape Cod were busy this past weekend, Jan. 27-28, with the rescue of 4 people in 2 separate water-related incidents. On Saturday, firefighters with the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills fire department rescued a naked woman who had fallen through the ice on Pattys Pond. Apparently, the woman had run onto the partially ice-covered pond at 9:22 a.m. When she went through the ice, firefighters in survival suits were able to reach her and bring her to shore.

The next evening at around 6:40, the Barnstable County dive team was mobilized to help with the rescue of 3 people from the Latham School off Breakwater Beach on Sunday night. According to reports, a female student had left the school and began swimming offshore when 2 staff members from the school went in after her.

Officials responded with a Zodiac rescue boat, an ambulance and a fire engine. Two firefighters in survival suits were able to swim out to the students and bring them to shore. All 3 were transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
