The Cape Cod Times reports that a flotilla of military ships that were gathered off Sandy Neck in Barnstable over the weekend prompted concerns among local boaters and beachgoers. Sandy Neck park manager Nina Coleman told the Times that her staff had received a number of calls about the ships from visitors to the beach.

Apparently there was nothing to fear, as a Navy spokesman later revealed that the ships were part of Naval Academy training for upcoming Surface Warfare Officers.
