Mystic River, CT, Drawbridge Work to Last 3 Years
July 27, 2011
TheDay.com reports that repair work on the Mystic River Drawbridge in Mystic, Connecticut, will likely adhere to a 3-year plan rather than a recently proposed 2-year plan.
The shorter plan would have restricted passage in the channel beginning in November rather than December, 2012, and would have required two 54-hour closures of the channel in 2012 instead of 1 closure in 2012 and 1 closure in 2013. Also, completion of the project would have been scheduled for the middle of May, 2012, rather than the middle of April, 2013. The former might have affected boat traffic as the boating season got underway next season.
Dan McFadden of the Mystic Seaport was quoted as saying that dock repairs the Seaport has scheduled would have been limited to a 2-week window if the bridge was to close in November. There were also concerns about the boat show the museum hosts in May being adversely affected.
