Mystic Seaport, Herreshoff Museum Join Forces
February 5, 2011
The Mystic Seaport (MSM) has announced its new affiliation with the Herreshoff Marine Museum (HMM) of Bristol, Rhode Island. According to a Seaport press release, the agreement advances its mission to “inspire an enduring connection to the American maritime experience and has the potential to become a model for future partnerships or alliances with other maritime institutions.”
The Herreshoff Marine Museum collection consists of models, images, plans, and watercraft relating to the famous Herreshoff boatbuilding company, which operated from 1878 to 1945. “The story of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. is most important and compelling, one that needs to be brought to a broader audience and made more accessible to the research and maritime community,” read the Seaport release, which also sited tangible benefits ranging from adding new content for future exhibitions and publications to participating as a partner in supporting the America’s Cup Hall of Fame.
