Nantucket Harbormaster Rescues Kayakers, Paddleboarders
July 16, 2014
Inquirer & Mirror: [Nantucket] Harbormaster Sheila Lucey on Tuesday [July 14] warned anyone using paddleboards, canoes or kayaks to use caution and common sense when paddling in Nantucket Harbor, after she and her staff rescued 10 people over the past several days who went out on the water, were blown offshore and could not make it back to land without assistance.
“On these windy days, people need to be careful. It’s not as easy as it looks,” Lucey said. “They go out, they don’t realize how hard it’s blowing, and they can’t back in.”
