Nantucket Jetties to Receive Repairs
September 10, 2014
CapeCodOnline: Nantucket’s east and west jetties leading into the harbor are in disrepair and seriously degraded, and the federal government is preparing to rehabilitate them in a $10.2 million project beginning later this fall and extending through next year.
“Several times over the last several years we’ve had boating accidents where people drove over the top of the jetties and were injured,” said town emergency management coordinator Dave Fronzuto, also a former Coast Guard electrical engineer and harbormaster. “It’s not uncommon to pluck a dozen people off the jetties in a year.”
