New England Boating TV Preview: New Bedford, MA
July 26, 2013
In the next episode of New England Boating TV, airing Monday, July 29, at 5:30 p.m. on NESN, the crew visits the historic whaling and fishing port of New Bedford, Massachusetts.
These days, New Bedford is most famous for being the largest commercial fishing port (per landings) in the country, but it also offers plenty of attractions for recreational boaters, including several marinas, a fantastic fuel dock, free public moorings, a free downtown dinghy dock and plenty of “nice ice” — as we discover on our harbor tour.
Ashore, the downtown area offers lots to see, do—and eat. New Bedford has an enormous variety of ethnic restaurants and art galleries within walking distance of the waterfront, including the aptly named Waterfront Grill, which we check out in the show. And if you like history, you can spend hours exploring the Whaling Museum, visit the Seamen’s Bethel, or tour the schooner Ernestina. You can see this and more in the upcoming episode. In the meantime, here are a few photos taken during the shoot to whet your appetite.
