New Bedford, MA, to Host Rowing Regatta Early Today
October 9, 2011
SouthCoastToday: The wind may be calm Sunday morning but the waters of the Acushnet River will be churning when competitive rowers from throughout New England take to the upper harbor for a grand regatta.
More than 160 boats have already signed up for the event, billed as New Bedford’s first-ever fall regatta.
Starting at 8:00 a.m., the fleet will set out from a dock next to the marina on Pope’s Island to race over a 5-kilometer course that takes boats down river from the starting line below the Interstate 195 bridge, around Pope’s Island and back to the start. Medals will be awarded to the winners in each category.
