New England Boating TV: East Greenwich, RI, Episode Airs Tonight Wednesday Nov. 9th
January 2, 2017
In this episode of New England Boating TV, the crew travels to East Greenwich, Rhode Island, an under-appreciated gem of a boating destination on the western shore of Narragansett Bay.
With Brewer Crowesett Marina serving as home base, co-hosts Parker Kelley and Tom Richardson head off in search of adventure in this historic port that’s surprisingly rich in history and makes a great jumping-off point for trips to other Rhode Island harbors.
Highlights of the episode include an informative harbor tour with Joe Mariani of Brewer Crowesett, as well as dock-and-dine segments at Blu on the Water and Finn’s Harborside, where Parker and Tom feast on the “Ultimate Lobster Roll!” Parker and Tom also enjoy an evening tour of Greenwich Cove with East Coast Paddle Sports, and check out Goddard Memorial State Park, which borders Greenwich Bay and offers beaches, a renovated launch ramp, a golf course and horseback riding.
Also in the episode is a walking tour of the town with local historian Bruce MacGunnigle, who discusses East Greenwich’s ties to the U.S. Navy, as well as its past as a commercial shellfishing center. And speaking of shellfish, Parker hitches a ride with a local clammer and learns to how rake quahogs in Narragansett Bay. Last but not least is a look at a few of East Greenwich’s eclectic downtown shops and boutiques, including the strange but wonderful Troll Shop.
