New England Boating TV: Menemsha, MA, Episode Now Live Online
This episode of New England Boating TV highlights the charming village of Menemsha on Martha’s Vineyard.
After making the short run to Menemsha from Falmouth Inner Harbor aboard their Pursuit C260, co-hosts Tom Richardson and Parker Kelley discover why so many boaters make this a routine stop on their summer itineraries. Harbormaster Dennis Jason and his helpful staff exhibit some local hospitality by immediately finding a home for the Pursuit, despite the harbor being packed with transient and commercial vessels in town for a midsummer “Meet the Fleet” event.
After settling into their cozy and charming digs at the Captain Flanders House B&B, Tom and Parker head off to explore this fascinating corner of the Vineyard. Segments include an early-morning kayak trip into Menemsha Creek with Island Spirit Kayak and a hike through the Menemsha Hills trail system for a sweeping view of Vineyard Sound and the Elizabeth Islands. Parker also enjoys a bike ride that takes her across Menemsha Creek on the bike ferry and all the way to the iconic cliffs of Aquinnah. Along the way, she gets a personal history lesson from Bettina Washington of the Wampanoag Aquinnahs.
Of course, Tom and Parker spend plenty of time close to Menemsha Harbor, checking out the various shops and stopping for chowder, clams and lobster at Larsen’s Fish Market. Also on tap is an informative harbor tour with Assistant Wharfinger Landon Steere, and some fishing advice from a pair of avid local anglers.
