New Gear: Shimano Tranx 300 & 400 Reels
March 8, 2017
Shimano has introduced 2 new sizes to its Tranx baitcasting series: the 300 and 400. Joining the Tranx 500HG and 500PG (a favorite among musky anglers and saltwater tuna and striper anglers alike), each new Tranx is offered in 4 models.
The righthand retrieve 300 and 400, and the lefthand retrieve 301 and 401, all feature powerful 5.8:1 gear ratios.
The righthand retrieve 300HG and 400HG, and the lefthand retrieve 301HG and 401HG, all feature fast 7.6:1 gear ratios.
All Tranx 300 and 400 size reels feature Shimano’s HAGANE body for added durability by reducing frame distortion or flex under severe loads. Both sizes also feature X-Ship bearing-supported pinion gears and High Efficiency Gearing (HEG). These 2 technologies work together to provide massive cranking power with a smooth, effortless retrieve.
X-Ship also provides resistance-free free-spool by eliminating friction between the pinion gear and spool shaft, enabling longer casts.
To increase durability, the Tranx reels feature CoreProtect technology, which provides water resistance without adding weight.
The Tranx 300HG and 400HG reels retrieve 40” of line per turn with their single handle and durable, lightweight CI4+ knob.
The low-gear 300 and 400 reels retrieve 30” of line and feature a double handle with oversized rubber-coated knobs.
The 300 size reels will hold up to 190 yards of 50-pound-test braid (or 180 yards of 14-pound mono), while the 400 can handle 170 yards of 65-pound braid (or 260 yards of 14-pound mono.)
Tranx 300, 301, 200HG, 301HG: $280
Tranx 400, 401, 400HG, 401HG: $300
