New London’s Pequot Light to be Renovated
March 6, 2014
New London Harbor’s historic Pequot Lighthouse (also known as New London Harbor Light) is scheduled to undergo the first phase of a major renovation starting in May 2014 and lasting for 6 to 8 weeks. The 89’ tall brownstone structure was built in 1801, when Thomas Jefferson was president. It is currently maintained by the New London Maritime Society.
The Carpenters Union will donate nearly $300,000 in scaffolding and manpower towards the renovation effort. Once the scaffolding is erected, the workers will remove the paint, repoint the masonry then repaint the structure and make repairs to the top of the light.
